steel wheels vs. alloy wheels. Difference please? | |
Answers:
1Alloy wheels are a bit lighter than steel wheels. As such, the unsprung weight of the car is a little less, and you'll get a little better ride and handling, but if you didn't know that already, odds are you'll not be able to tell the difference.
Alloy wheels have a little thicker section. They're a little less likely to bend but not much. Alloy wheels can leak (due to aluminum porosity).
Additionally steel wheels are usually stamped, and aluminum wheels are cast and machined. As such they're a bit more uniform and less prone to run-out (wobbling).
One more thing... since brakes are usually made of steel, there is a bit of corrosion that goes on between steel brakes and aluminum wheels that can cause them to be "stuck". This is not as prevalant in steel wheels.
